GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An Iraq War veteran and a repeat winner finished first in the 25K handcycle and 25K wheelchair races, respectively.
Tom Davis, of Freemont, Indiana, crossed the finish line first in the 25K handcycle race with an overall time of 38 minutes and 4 seconds.
“Today was awesome, it was just one of those days. I was really worried about the weather and being cold and wet. But it was just one of those days I got out there and everything just kind of clicked. It felt awesome today,” Davis said. “I love doing these kind of races because it doesn’t matter what the weather is like because people are still out there cheering you on.”
Davis lost his leg after an improvised explosive device went off while he was serving in Iraq. He also won the men’s 2018 Boston Marathon handcycling title.
