Same runner wins River Bank Run 5K, 10K

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)  — For the fourth straight year, the same runner who won the Fifth Third River Bank Run 5K was the first to cross the 10K finish line as well.

Isaac Mukundi of Lansing is the latest athlete to accomplish this feat. Less than an hour after winning the 5K with an overall time of 15 minutes and 14 seconds, the 30-year-old athlete busted through the winner’s tape at the 10K finish line, with an overall time of 31 minutes and 26 seconds.

“I feel good and I’m really happy to have won two races,” Mukundi said.

He told 24 Hour News 8 he treated the events like a 15K, keeping his pace balanced.

Caledonia native McKenzie Diemer, 24, was the first woman to cross the finish line, with a time of 39 minutes and 2 seconds.
