River Bank Run: 11 year old top female finisher in 5K

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An 11-year-old girl from Grand Rapids was the first female runner to finish the 5K at this year’s Fifth Third River Bank Run.

Clara James-Heer of Forest Hills Central crossed the finish line with an overall time of 17 minutes and 52 seconds; that puts her pace at about 5 minutes and 46 seconds per mile.

“It feels nice to get a new PR out here,“ James-Heer told 24 Hour News 8 shortly after she crossed the finish line.

“That’s incredible,” said race veteran Greg Meyer. “If you ran that in high school, colleges would be looking at you for scholarships,” he added.

“It takes a lot of training and hard work,” James-Heer said.
