Kalamazoo Public Schools' $96.7M bond passed

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Voters on Tuesday OK'd the largest bond issue in Kalamazoo Public Schools' history.

KPS officials said the district sent representatives to each precinct to call in results as they became available. Those numbers indicate the bond was approved with about 70 percent of the vote.

The bond in question is for $96.7 million. About half of the money has been earmarked for replacing outdated equipment, like roofs, boilers, parking lots, lighting, windows and buses. About a quarter of the cash will pay to replace Edison Environmental Science Academy. The rest will fund improved school security, a districtwide kitchen and an addition to Phoenix High School.
