'Empty the Shelters' gives pets a new home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This weekend Kent County Animal Shelter partnered with the Bissell Pet Foundation for "Empty the Shelters".

This event on Saturday morning aimed to get sheltered animals a new home, and make it easier for people to adopt. Bissell covered the adoption costs, which includes paying for spay and neutering. The only cost for adopters was for dog adoptions; people still had to pay for a dog license.

Adopters received an "AdoptBox" which included a five pound bag of dog food, treats, toys, new pet owner information and coupons.
