GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A girl was taken to the hospital after a large tree branch fell on her as she was playing outside a Grand Rapids home Friday.
Grand Rapids firefighters were at Dale Street and Center Avenue NE, responding to a downed tree that took down power lines when they heard the tree crack around 10:30 a.m. When they turned around, they saw the large branch fall on top of the 7-year-old girl.
“She was laying on the ground, flopping around. And her mom come and grabbed her and the fireman ran over there. And I was trying to yell at the other firemen in the wind, to let them know what happened,” said Brian Andree, who called about the first downed tree.
The girl was hospitalized with minor injuries and is expected to be OK.
"Two seconds sooner and she would've been underneath that tree," Andree said, admitting he was close to tears.
