GRPD to add patrols for downtown march Tuesday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  — There will be additional police officers in downtown Grand Rapids ahead of a planned march Tuesday.

More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in a march organized by Movimiento Cosecha, which works to protect undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

The event is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. at Roosevelt Park on Grandville Avenue SW near Clyde Park Avenue. It will end at Grand Rapids City Hall, located at 300 Monroe Avenue NW.

The Grand Rapids Police Department will have 50 additional officers to staff the event. The city says the event is expected to cause traffic backups and delays around the Grandville Avenue corridor.
