Toddler drowns in water outside Montcalm Co. home

PIERSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 2-year-old boy is dead after being pulled from the water behind his Montcalm County home, police say.

It happened around 1:40 p.m. Sunday. That’s when Michigan State Police were called to the toddler’s home on Neve Road in Pierson Township, northeast of Sand Lake.

Troopers say the parents of 2-year-old Alexander Sheldon found him in the water, unresponsive.

Relatives tried to revive him until first responders arrived and took over, but the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

It’s unclear how the boy ended up in the water.
