Inaugural surf festival coming to Pere Marquette beach

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Muskegon’s Pere Marquette beach will look more like the California coastline this summer when a new festival comes to town.

The inaugural Great Lakes Surf Festival will take over the beach on Saturday, Aug. 18.

Event founder and Michigan surfer Joe Bidawid expects the festival to be “a surfer’s nirvana,” with thousands of surfers, “boardheads,” artists and yogis. Vendors will showcase boards, clothing and sports accessories.

The festival will also feature surf, SUP and kayak lessons as part of a $30 registered pass. Visitors can tent camp on a designated section of the beach on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18.

Bidawid said he picked Pere Marquette beach because of its central location and large surfing community.
