Child abuse case against Kzoo doctor dismissed

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A child abuse case involving a Kalamazoo doctor who is facing deportation has been thrown out.

Dr. Lukasz Niec's lawyer confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 Wednesday the case brought by the Department of Health and Human Services was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Niec, who was born in Poland, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Jan. 16 for administrative immigration violations. He was detained for 16 days before being releasedon a $10,000 bond.

ICE says two misdemeanor convictions from Niec's teenage years for malicious destruction of property and involvement in receiving and concealing stolen goods are grounds for deportation.

The agency said he came under federal investigation because of the child abuse allegations.
