De Zwaan Windmill named a Michigan Historic Site

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — One of the most well-known spots in West Michigan now has a new designation.

De Zwaan Windmill at Windmill Island Gardens in Holland is now a Michigan Historic Site.

As a result, the windmill is getting a green marker that will tell its history. Built in the Netherlands in 1761, it was brought to Michigan in 1964. It is the only working authentic Dutch windmill in the U.S.

If you want to visit the windmill in person, Windmill Island open for the season. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

There are more than 1,700 Michigan Historic Sites. You can find them all on the state's website.
