MSP: No charges in Montcalm County infant death

FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — No one will face charges in the death of a 1-year-old girl in Montcalm County.

A sergeant with the Michigan State Police confirms the prosecutor has declined filing charges in connection to the incident on Feb. 21 in Fairplain Township, near Sheridan.

Troopers were called to a home around 10:12 a.m. that day when the baby’s 2-year-old sibling was discovered walking near the roadway. When police arrived, they found the 1-year-old in standing water in the backyard.

The baby died at the hospital. The other child was turned over to relatives.

Child Protective Services launched an investigation following the incident, but the outcome of that investigation is unclear.
