KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Gospel Mission announced a fundraising effort to fund a new shelter for homeless women and children.
The proposed shelter will provide housing, meals, recovery programs, educational and job training, and spiritual counseling.
Officials gathered for a news conference Thursday to provide background information about the shelter and give an overview of the fundraising process. They also described how the facilities will impact the lives of residents seeking to escape homelessness.
The campaign has raised $2.1 million so far towards a $3 million goal.
“We’re really excited today to share a group of people that have united to be a blessing,” said Tim Hiller, the campaign’s co-chair. “It’s a day filled with gratitude but it’s only the beginning, so we’re really thrilled for that.”
