GR native, former Lion determined to help kids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — Grand Rapids native and former Detroit Lion Don Carey is using his platform as a professional athlete to help kids across the country.

Throughout his nine-year career in the NFL, Carey has made an impact on the field as one of the NFL’s top special teams players. He says he owes everything he has in life to football, but succeeding in football isn’t his only goal in life.

Carey has spent his entire professional career giving back to the community, especially to kids who grew up like he did. He started life living in a house on the southeast side of Grand Rapids with his mother and three sisters, so he knows what it was like to struggle for opportunity.
