Kentwood company recalls spread for possible listeria

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kentwood company is voluntarily recalling 487 pounds of smoked salmon spread that may be tainted with listeria.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says its inspectors found listeria monocytogenes at Superior Foods Company during a routine inspection and testing.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and potentially deadly infections in young children, frail or older people, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages or stillbirths.
