Double murder-suicide victim, suspect were divorcing

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — One of the victims in a double murder-suicide Friday in Muskegon had recently filed for divorce from the alleged shooter.

Court records show Brittany Sevrey began the process of ending her six-year marriage to Brandon Sevrey in January. A check of court records revealed Brittany Sevrey, a nurse at Mercy Health Hackley Campus, and her estranged husband had agreed to joint custody for their two children, ages 6 and 9.

There was nothing in the court record, like a claim of abuse, that would have indicated the split might become violent.

But just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, Brittany Sevrey and Thomas Davis were shot as they sat in a car in a parking lot across from JC Walker Arena in downtown Muskegon. Brittany Sevrey died at the scene.  Thomas Davis died the next day.
