Shooting in Springfield prompts nearby schools to close

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) — An early morning shooting in Springfield prompted schools in the area to close Thursday.

The Battle Creek Public Schools superintendent’s office told 24 Hour News 8 that Springfield Middle School and Valley View Elementary School in Springfield are closed Thursday. Endeavor Charter Academy, which is near the two schools, is also closed.

The three school are located near the intersection of Avenue A and Helmer Road in Springfield.

Calhoun County sheriff's deputies told 24 Hour News 8 that a woman was driving on Avenue A near Sundown Street in Springfield Thursday morning when she swerved to avoid hitting a man who was in the street.
