2 men charged in murder of East Kentwood HS student

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two men are facing charges in connection to the murder of an East Kentwood High School student, including the man accused of repeatedly raping her last summer.

Quinn Anthony James is charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of 16-year-old Mujey Dumbuya. James will soon head to trial for allegedly rapingDumbuya. She was set to testify against him before her death.

"I think this is something that is extremely rare," said Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker.

"I've dealt with CSC cases over my 23-year career, this is the first time in 23 years in my career that I can say we have a CSC victim that was killed, and we filed charges against somebody who was a defendant at that time," he added.

James, 42, is also charged with felony murder with the underlying offense being kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Becker announced the charges during a Wednesday morning news conference.
