Authorities identify man killed in Grandville crash

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have identified a man who was killed in a crash in Grandville last week.

The Grandville Police Department has identified the man who was killed in the April 4 crash as 50-year-old Daniel Vander Velde of Walker.

The  two-vehicle crash happened on 44th Street at the westbound I-196 exit  ramp. Police said a 34-year-old Mecosta man who was westbound on 44th  ran a red light, at which point his Jeep hit the driver’s side of Vander  Velde’s vehicle that was exiting the highway.

Vander Velde died at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police  said neither distracted driving nor alcohol were factors in the crash.  There are currently no charges filed, but the case remains under  investigation.
