40 years after first meeting, pair plans wedding

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Robert Singleton and Margaret Rose's love story is 40 years in the making.

The year was 1975 when they first met in Danville, Kentucky. He was a student at Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, but would visit family in Kentucky on occasion. One of his cousins introduced the pair.

"I had a crush on her but I don't think she knew how big of a crush I had on her," Singleton told 24 Hour News 8 Sunday.

She picked up on the vibe he was putting out, and it wasn't like she wasn't interested.

"I thought he was fine, do you understand me?" Rose said.

But she wasn't available.

"I had a boyfriend at the time, so I didn't really take him serious," Rose said.

Still, the timing was not quite right. The two went their separate ways after Rose decided to continue her education.

"I knew she was going to college in Louisville, Kentucky," Singleton said.
