PD: Kzoo contractor took $250K, never showed

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A no-show contractor from Kalamazoo is facing fraud charges after investigators say he bilked homeowners out of more than $250,000.

Andrew Miller owns Pristine Decks & Design. Friday, he was formally charged with three felonies, including two counts of false pretenses and one count of fraudulent use of a builder trust fund.

The Portage Department of Public Safety says its detectives launched their investigation in January. So far, they’ve discovered seven victims who’ve lost more than $250,000 they paid toward deck construction projects Miller either failed to complete or never began.

The Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan said the complaints against Pristine Decks & Design followed a pattern: The homeowner would sign a contract and pay as much as 50 percent ahead of construction. Several months would pass and no work was completed.
