Wolverines face tough challenge in Villanova

SAN ANTONIO (WOOD) — The script has flipped for Michigan.

In the Final Four matchup against Loyola-Chicago, the Wolverines were Goliath. Now in the national championship game against Villanova, they have been given the role of David.

“They’re not No. 1 in the country for no reason,” Michigan sophomore guard Zavier Simpson said of The Wildcats. “We've got to come ready to play or we’re going to get embarrassed.”

The Wildcats have played incredibly well all season (they're 35-4) and their NCAA Tournament performance has been particularly impressive. They're the fifth team to win their first five games by double digits and set three 3-pointer records in a blowout victory over Kansas State in the semifinal.

“A team that can shoot the three as well as they do, they’re always in the game,” Charles Matthews said of Villanova’s strength. “They’re veteran-led as well. They’re a really good team and we understand. We’ve been facing good teams all season long. So it’ll be a challenge, but I think we’re ready for it.”
