KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 7,000 Consumers Energy customers, including Western Michigan University’s campus, are without power in Kalamazoo Tuesday morning.
According to the Consumers Energy outage map, it was first reported shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday. As of 5:45 a.m., there were 7,698 customers in Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo Township without power.
Western Michigan University posted on Twitter that its main campus is without power.
Consumers Energy told 24 Hour News 8 that the cause of outage was likely due to strong winds that broke a power pole in the Kalamazoo area. It's unclear exactly where the broken pole is located.
