Ford Airport starts $30M renovation project

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Gerald R. Ford International Airport on Monday launched a construction project to fix up the tarmac surrounding the terminals.

The $30 million project will be completed in seven phases over the course of two years to decrease its impact on flights. The airport says passengers shouldn't be affected at all.

The terminal apron — where planes park, load, unload and refuel — will get 153,000 square yards of new concrete. The airport says that's enough to build a four-foot wide, four-inch thick sidewalk from its metro Grand Rapids location all the way to the Mackinac Bridge.
