W MI student devotes senior project to family in need

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Shari Farrell remembers the day she met her son at an orphanage in Haiti.

"He was just being a little boy, having a ton of fun, throwing rocks. I thought this is just like my kids at home," she said. “I fell in love with him and that was the first connection we had.”

The mother of four began the adoption process for her son, John Walton, in 2012. Since then, she has traveled back to Haiti with family and friends every summer.

"I love when I can share my experiences and my passion with people in that setting because I can tell people here all about it but you don't really know till you experience when you're there," said Farrell.

Wellspring High School student Morgan Sullivan, who met Farrell at Blythefield Hills Baptist Church, was on one of those trips, which led her on a journey of her own.
