2 arrested, 1 injured in officer-involved shooting

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people are facing charges following an officer-involved shooting in St. Joseph County Wednesday.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Heimbach Road near US-131 in Park Township, north of Three Rivers, during a drug bust, according to a St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office news release.

Prosecutors say an officer in an unmarked vehicle was waiting at a nearby John Deere dealership for the suspect’s vehicle to arrive. When the target vehicle got on scene, prosecutors say the officer told the suspects he was a police officer.

Then when the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver abruptly reversed and hit the unmarked police vehicle. The driver then spun around and tried to run over the officer. At this point, prosecutors say the officer fired one shot using his service pistol and hit the driver in the right shoulder.

Additional deputies arrived on scene and were able to take the suspects into custody. One was taken to Bronson Hospital for treatment then was later released and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail. The second suspect was immediately taken to jail, the release said.

The suspects — 35-year-old Lloyd Roger O’Connor of Marcellus and 32-year-old Jordon Bradley Raymond of Menominee — will be arraigned Thursday on one count of attempted murder, one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and three counts of assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said in the release that the officer’s actions were justified and he was “happy that no lives were lost during this extremely dangerous incident.”
