GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A few thousand people in Grand Rapids were without power for about three hours Saturday afternoon.
Power went out shortly after 3:30 p.m. and service was restored around 6:10 p.m., according to Consumers Energy. More than 8,000 customers in Kent County — including many on Grand Rapids’ West Side, downtown and in the Arena District — were affected.
A problem with a 46,000-volt distribution line at a substation on Wealthy Street SW was at the root of the outage, a Consumers spokesman told 24 Hour News 8. The cause of that equipment failure was not immediately clear.
