A Grand Rapids police officer who was being investigated for allegedly using excessive force against a suspect has resigned.
Target 8 received a tip from a viewer about Officer Kevin Penn getting in trouble for holding his gun to the head of a man who was handcuffed. Sources confirm that’s what sparked the investigation.
The incident happened Sept. 12 and involved the suspect in an armed robbery, the Grand Rapids Police Department said Monday night. Fellow officers reported Penn to Internal Affairs. Sources say the incident was captured on police body cameras. Target 8 submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for a copy of the video and report.
