1 killed, 3 injured in Byron Center crash

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD)- One person was killed and three  others injured in a three-vehicle crash in Byron Township Wednesday  afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Byron Center Avenue at 76th Street, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities say 83-year-old Bruce Fase of Ada Township was headed  south when his Cadillac SUV struck a southbound Dodge Durgano and then a  northbound Jeep.

Fase’s passenger, 76-year-old Ruth Prusinski of Ada Township, was rushed to Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, where she died.

Fase; the driver of the Durango, 61-year-old Timothy Daymon of Byron  Center; and the driver of the Jeep, 75-year-old Gerrit Scholten of Byron  Center, were also hospitalized but their injures are not considered  life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities  say alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. Everyone involved was  wearing their seat belt.
