Family seeks justice in Muskegon father’s homicide

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — The family of a Muskegon man found dead east  of Fremont over the weekend is grieving the loss of the young father.

D’Anthony Keenan, 24, was found dead in dense woods along Crystal  Lake Trail between West 20th Street and 28th Street in Newaygo County’s  Sherman Township. Investigators have not released information about how  he died, only saying that his death was being treated as a homicide.

“His phone wasn’t ringing. It was just a lot of things that wasn’t  like him,” Keenan’s sister Nakeyda Haymer told 24 Hour News 8,  describing the time her brother was missing.

The worst possible outcome came Saturday evening: Keenan’s body was found shortly after 6 p.m. The family was notified Monday.

“He just didn’t deserve that, you know,” Haymer said. “You really  never know how bad it is out here until it comes down your street, until  it’s your family, until they’re coming to talk to you.”

Keenan’s family says he had no connections to the Newaygo area and they don’t think he traveled there on his own.

Initially, Keenan’s SUV was missing, but shortly after putting out a  request for the public’s help to find it, officers located it. They  processed it where it was found in a paring lot on South Maple Island  Road south of 48th Street near Fremont before towing it away as  evidence.

Keenan leaves behind two young children, the oldest a 1-year-old son.

Newaygo County authorities declined to discuss details of the case  Monday but said detectives were working diligently to get to the bottom  of what happened.

Investigators are seeking tips from anyone with information about  what happened. They specifically requested anyone with trail cameras  that might have captured something along Crystal Lake Trail between  Friday afternoon and Saturday evening to call the Newaygo County  Sheriff’s Office at 231.689.5288 or Silent Observer at 231.652.1121.
