2 arrested in Fruitport Twp. thefts from vehicles

FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two suspects in a series of thefts from vehicles in Fruitport Township are in custody.

The thefts happened late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, the  Fruitport Township Police Department said in a release Tuesday night.  Police did not say precisely how many vehicles were targeted or what was  stolen.

Police say minutes after they released security camera video showing the persons of interest officers received a tip that identified both men. Within an hour, the suspects were in custody.

Authorities are asking residents in the area of Brookmere Street,  Creekview Lane, Pinewood Lane and Aspen Estates to check their vehicles  for missing items. Police are working to return stolen property. If you  notice items missing, call the Fruitport Township Police Department at  231.865.8477.

Police reminded residents to lock the doors to their vehicles and  garages and asked residents to report anyone behaving suspiciously to  911.

The case remains under investigation.
