Police ID man who drowned in St. Joseph River

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (WOOD) – Police have released the identity of a man whose body was found in the St. Joseph River in mid-June.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab was able to use DNA to identify the man as Willie Brand, according to a St. Joseph Department of Public Safety release.

Brand was reported missing on May 10. An autopsy determined he drowned and no foul play was involved.

Brand’s body was found in the River on June 17 in Morrison Channel near Pier 33 Marina, police said. Because his body appeared to have been in the water for an extended amount of time, police weren’t able to immediately identify him.
