GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An 8-year-old died after going under the water in a pool near Hudsonville on Saturday.
Authorities said Sunday afternoon that Mekhi Davon Ivy of the Jenison area died as a result of the incident.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Mekhi went under the water around 2 p.m. at a house in the Sunningdale subdivision in Georgetown Township. His aunt told 24 Hour News 8 that Mekhi and a number of other children were there for a pool party their teacher was hosting.
One of the other children saw Mekhi at the bottom of the pool. The teacher performed CPR until first responders arrived to take Mekhi by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was initially listed in critical condition but died later Saturday.
