Police: Comstock Fire Chief assists to car crash; dies after struck by pass

KALAMAZOO, Mich (WOOD) — While responding to an unknown accident on  eastbound I-94, Chief Edward Switalski of Comstock Fire and Rescue, died  after being struck by a passing vehicle.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriffs Department and Comstock Fire and Rescue  responded unknown car accident on eastbound I-94 Wednesday night at  10:30 p.m.

Upon their arrival, crews found an unoccupied vehicle and no injuries to report.

We are told that as fire respondents were preparing to leave the  scene, a passing vehicle lost control and struck Chief Edward Switalski.

Switalski was standing near the rear of his rescue vehicle.
