Authorities ID woman killed in Kent Co. house fire

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have identified a 65-year-old woman who was killed in a house fire Friday in Kent County.

Firefighters were unable to rescue Beverly Kay Combs from the fire, which happened at 6400 Fricke Court NE in Cannon Township, southeast of Rockford, according to a Kent County Sheriff’s Department news release.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Combs’ husband told firefighters his wife was still inside, but the firefighters were unable to search for her until the fire was under control, authorities said. Combs’ body was later found.

Combs’ husband was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has not been released. Fire investigators have determined that no criminal charges will be filed.
