MSP IDs pedestrian killed on M-46 in Montcalm County

HOME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police say a Montcalm County man was hit and killed while standing in the middle of M-46.

It happened around 4:46 a.m. Wednesday on the state highway near Cedar Lake in Home Township, between Edmore and Vestaburg.

Michigan State Police say a 42-year-old man from Vestaburg was driving westbound on M-46 when he hit 40-year-old Steven Hax of Six Lakes. Hax died at the scene.

MSP says it was dark at the time of the crash and the victim wasn’t wearing any reflective clothing. Troopers believe Hax had been drinking beforehand and that alcohol played a role in the incident.

The driver was not injured.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported M-46 was shut down between Vickeryville and Academy roads, but the road has since reopened.
