Body of Army sgt. killed in Hawaii returns home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The body of a soldier killed while stationed in Hawaii has returned home to Grand Rapids.

Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police and Patriot Guard Riders escorted  the body of U.S. Army Sgt. Terrence Hinton from Gerald R. Ford  International Airport to Ivy. K. Gillespie Memorial Chapel on Eastern.

The procession went west onto 44th Street from the airport, then  north on Eastern Avenue to the funeral home, located at 1865 Eastern  Avenue SE in Grand Rapids.

Hinton,  36, died May 14 on the island of Oahu when the military truck he was  riding in left the roadway and rolled over. Hawaii police were  investigating the case a possible negligent homicide. As of Tuesday, the  status of that investigation was unclear.

Visitation for Hinton will be held on Wednesday, May 31 from 2 p.m.  to 6 p.m. at Ivy K. Gillespie Memorial Chapel, located at 1865 Eastern  Avenue SE in Grand Rapids.
