GRPD Search For Driver Who Fled After Killing Passenger

The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a fatal accident in which the driver fled after the vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole killing the passenger.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:05 pm last night on Division Av at Alger St. A preliminary investigation reveals that the SUV was traveling north on Division just south of Alger when it struck the median. 

The vehicle went airborne before striking a utility pole on the westide of Division. A 28 year old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled on foot. 

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver is described as a white male in his 20’s, 5’8” - 5’10”, with short hair and a beard. He was last wearing a pink shirt, khaki shorts.
