Norton Shores police officer killed in cruiser crash

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) — A ten-year veteran of the Norton Shores  Police Department is dead after his cruiser crashed early Tuesday  morning.

It happened around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday on Henry Street between Ross and Forest Park roads.

Norton Shores police said the officer was severely injured in the crash. He was taken to Hackley Hospital where he died.

Norton Shores police say the officer killed leaves behind a wife and  two children. His name will be released during a news conference later  Tuesday.

Michigan State Police are in charge of the investigation. They’re  trying to determine what led up to the crash, which destroyed the  officer’s cruiser. Crews could be seen loading the wreckage onto a  flatbed around 7:30 a.m.
