SUV rollover crash on NB 131 in Wyoming causes backup

An SUV rolled over on NB 131 in Wyoming Wednesday evening, and a witness told 24 Hour News 8 the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes near 36th Street, dispatchers say. A 24 Hour News 8 crew on the scene could see an SUV rolled over and landed on its roof.

Driver Corey Claxton said he saw the crash happen. He said the driver of the SUV, a woman, didn’t seem to realize that cars in front of her were going slower than she was until too late.

“She swerved over to the middle lane to try to avoid it and just started losing control and then hit the middle wall and started tumbling,” Claxton told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone.

He said the driver was thrown from the SUV.

“She was probably a hundred feet or so away from where the car ended up landing,” Claxton said.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation. They have not yet provided any information about the driver’s condition.

After the wreck, traffic was backed up all the way to 76th Street, that’s nearly five miles from where it happened. The highway reopened after about three hours.
