Student Killed Outside Muskegon Twp. Bowling Alley; 2 in Custody

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Muskegon Public Schools student was killed in a shooting outside a bowling alley in Muskegon Township.

The Muskegon Township Police Chief David Wypa says his officers were called to Northway Lanes at 1751 Evanston Ave around 6:55 p.m. Monday for the report of a shooting.

Officers said the male victim was hit by a single shot inside a vehicle. He was able to climb out of the car before collapsing, police said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Muskegon Public Schools Superintendent’s Office confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 the victim was a student in the district. They didn’t release any additional information.

Witnesses told police two people left the bowling alley’s parking lot after the shooting. Authorities said they arrested one of them after a standoff a few blocks away from the bowling alley, in the 1700 block of Southland. The second person was also taken into custody.

Authorities plan to update the case later Tuesday morning.
