Dispatchers say the fire was reported just before 5 a.m. at a home in the 7400 block of M-37 in Baltimore Township, south of Hastings.Hastings Fire Chief Roger Caris says when firefighters arrived a passerby was helping one of the residents out of the burning house; however, a woman who was bedridden was still trapped on the second floor.Caris told 24 Hour News 8 that firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly and rescued the woman. She was taken by ambulance to the Hastings Airport and then flown to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.Caris says the woman was badly burned, but was still breathing before she was transported to the hospital.The conditions of the two residents, a father and daughter, are unknown. Their names have not been released.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
