6 Children Hurt in School Bus Accident

Six elementary students were injured following a crash involving a car and school bus at the intersection ofDivision Av and Griggs St. The accident occurred at approximately 8:06 am.  A preliminary investigation indicates the school bus was traveling southbound on Division when the bus driver attempted to make a left turn onto Griggs St. Prior to the bus clearing the intersection, a vehicle traveling north on Division crashedinto the rear of the bus.There were a total of 55 students on board. Injuries ranged from a bloody nose to a dislodged tooth. Fourstudents complained of various pains. Six students, ages 6 to 11 years of age, were taken to a nearbyhospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The 63 year old bus driver was not injured but was cited for Failing to Yield on a Left Turn. The 19 year old driver of the other vehicle was not injured.The accident remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department's Traffic Unit.
