State Park Beach Closed

Wreckage from a stranded 76-foot pleasure boat that is being pulled apart by Lake Michigan's waves has forced the closure of Ludington State Park's popular beach. The park posted this notice on its Facebook page late Friday:"The Ludington State Park beach currently is closed due to a salvage operation. Debris is washing ashore, and our crews are working to quickly remove it from the area. We'll let visitors know as soon as it is safe to reopen the beach area."The boat's operator intentionally grounded it in about 3 feet of water near Big Sable Point on April 15 after noticing it was taking on water, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The boat was traveling from Pentwater to Traverse City when it occurred.Since then, the vessel has been breaking apart, with debris scattered along the shoreline.
