The first Meijer stores in the Upper Peninsula will open next month.
The Michigan retailer announced the Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie stores will open May 18, and their gas stations will be open Friday, April 20. The opening dates are earlier than initially reported.
The Midwest retailer made a video showing the first Meijer truck rolling across the Mackinac bridge into the U.P.
The 230,000 square-foot Sault St. Marie store is located near the Road I-75 Business Spur at 293 West 3 Mile Road. and the Escanaba store at 505 26th St S.
Grand openings celebrations for both stores will begin May 21, the retailer said.
The two stores are among seven new locations Meijer will open in 2017 in Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Meijer is planning to open a third U.P. store in Marquette in 2018.
