Grand River May Not Flood According to National Weather Service

The Grand River in Grand Rapids may not hit flood stage Monday as forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

The river is at a depth of 17.5 feet as of 10:30 a.m. Monday in Grand Rapids - about half a foot shy of its 18 foot flood stage, according to the NWS.

The river will be cresting Monday downtown, but won't reach 18 feet, said NWS meteorologist Wayne Hoepner.

The last time the Grand River hit its flood stage was in 2013 when it set its record crest of 21.8 feet.

The river's crest moved through Lowell and entered Kent County this morning, Hoepner said, explaining he expects it will take about a day for the crest to move through the area.

However, the river is three feet above flood stage in Comstock Park -- and a number of neighborhoods along the river are impacted.
