Search for Man in Kalamazoo River Resumes

OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) — The search for a man in the Kalamazoo River in Otsego resumed Friday morning.

The man was last seen calling for help around 9 p.m. Thursday behind the Meijer store just west of US-131, authorities on the scene said.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., crews said they were suspending the search until around 8 a.m. Friday, saying it was too dark and the river was moving too fast. They said they were treating the operation as a recovery rather than a rescue.

Before the search was called off, rescue boats were on the water and officers were stationed on bridges to keep an eye out for the man. Divers were staging behind the Otsego Police Department — about two miles downriver from the Meijer, according to Google Maps — prepared to enter the water if he was spotted.\
