Strong winds, heavy snow knock out power to 20K

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Strong winds and heavy, wet snow caused thousands of homes to lose power on Thursday.

Around 41,000 Consumers Energy customers statewide are without power, including more than 20,600 in West Michigan.

The hardest hit county was Barry County with nearly 10,000 residents without power.

Outage numbers by county as of 1:30 p.m.:

  • Allegan: 487
  • Barry: 9,819
  • Calhoun: 2,517
  • Ionia: 135
  • Kalamazoo: 1,944
  • Kent: 4,606
  • Muskegon: 1,099
