Investigation Underway After Police Stop Five Unarmed Boys at Gunpoint

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A Grand Rapids city commissioner called a meeting with the police chief after five African American boys ages 12 - 14 were stopped at gunpoint by police last Friday while they were walking down the street on the city's south side.

Police were responding to a call of a fight in progress involving numerous teenagers, with one witness claiming they saw a gun. It later proved not to involve the kids the officers stopped.

One of the mothers wrote Lenear an email, that included this request:

"I would like GRPD to provide counseling services for all children involved, as my kids have never seen a real gun before and having one pulled on them has them scared to death of walking alone, fearing they might be killed next time.

"I also would like to know if this is standard procedure to pull out that many guns on boys.

"I want an apology from the officers involved to each of my boys and the other boys. I want them to come to the school multiple times to play ball or something friendly in order to regain the trust of my boys and their peers."
