Before 10:00pm Friday night, a crash occurred on SB 131 south of Wealth St. exit 84. Moments later, approximately 10:15pm police closed SB 131 between Wealthy St. exit 84 and Pearl St. exit 85. Traffic on SB 131 was backing up to Leonard NW. In attempts to ease congestion on the closed freeway, police have even closed the ramp to SB 131 from Oaks St. SW in the arena district. Police are asking people to avoid the area.
24 Hour News 8/WOOD TV reports that the Michigan State Police chased a suspect who ultimately was shot, possibly committing suicide. An investigation is underway.
The freeway reopened shortly after midnight.
